Oil Posts Biggest 3-Day Drop Since February as Demand May Slow May 16 (Bloomberg) -- Crude oil posted its biggest three-day decline since February in New York on concern that near-record fuel and commodity prices will slow economic growth and curb global demand. Crude oil for June delivery fell as much as 90 cents, or 1.3 percent, to $68.51 a barrel in after-hours electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Prices have dropped 6.4 percent in the past three days. Producers are already oversupplying the market, with as much as 2 million barrels a day ``floating'' around in search of a home. ``Supply is ahead of demand,'' Saudi Arabia's al-Naimi said yesterday. ``When prices are high, people check their pockets, and when prices are low they open their pockets,'' Saudi Arabia is the world's biggest oil exporter and most influential member of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries. OPEC produces about 40 percent of the world's oil. |
