mda,am verificat si se pare ca Dan a cam urcat preturile.unele repere le are mai scumpe,vad ca la sistemul de franare are preturi ok,pe la senzori pe anumiti producatori are preturi mari.

Alex, sunt sigur ca ala e un filtru normal montat semicircular. Pune-le unul langa altul si vezi daca e vreo diferenta.

am bagat fise mai la toti,ori au doar pe original ori nu vor sa caute echivalentul ,sa vedem am gasit la scufi o cutie de filtru si tubulatura aferenta de M3,poate o bricolez pe aia .asa ca o prima impresie parca urca mai greu in ture cu admisia stock

auzi, masoara filtru si trimite-mi dimensiunile. eventual da-mi si o poza in e-mail sa-l vad cum arata (sau un link ceva)

app: cat e pe original? eu la mine l-am luat de la ACS si am dat 200E pe el ( ohmy.gif ) dar e cu admisie directa si nu trebuie schimbat la 10mii km.

The Performance air filter is longer and not quite as wide as the original.

The Performance filter measures 10 1/2 X 6 5/8 inches.
The stock air filter measures 9 3/8 X 6 7/8 inches.

I finally got enough miles to justify replacing the filter. I also went with the Napa Gold 6301 mentioned in the cross above (thanks mrmaico and Essing) and it fit just as good as the original. Some notes from the replacement, and the filter itself :

• The Napa Gold 6301 fit the filter carrier very well. I couldn't tell if it was narrower. If it was, it was small enough for me not to be able to tell, or didn't see it as an issue. No gaps, and after tightening the 6 carrier screws down that filter was snug as a bug.

• The Napa Gold 6301 had a metal mesh, the original BMW did not. This did not become a problem during the install, however. The mesh did not affect the flexibility of the filter to follow the carrier's U-shape. Tip - insert the filter from the bottom of the "U", not the top.

• The original BMW filter had 93 pleats, the Napa Gold 6301 had 94. The 6301's pleats were also about 3-4mm taller than the original. That's not much, but multiplied by 94 that translates to a bit more surface area. Specifically that's 156mm (width of paper material) x 3mm (length difference from original) x 188 (94 pleats times two because each pleat has 2 sides). That's 87,984 square millimeters, or just under one square foot in surface area.

• For comparison, the FRAM CA7598 only had 73 pleats. Assuming the same pleat height (I didn't check), that's 22% less surface area than the original.

• Thread the 6 screws first before torquing any of them fully. If you don't the carrier gets bent out of shape and inserting the other screws becomes a chore. This applies regardless of the brand of filter you put in there.

• The Napa Gold 6301 was $12.69 + tax.

Thanks again to all who contributed. It's good to know we have alternatives.

I can no longer edit the original post, but whoever is catching this late, this is the cross according to K&N :

azi a venit nenea tinichigiu si a vazut usa,a zis ca merge salvata,curatat usor pana la tabla ,deruginol apoi ceva zinc si bagat ceara pt protectie (in usa direct zicea el) aprilie mai facem operatiunea,pt moment a dat cu niste vaselina spray acolo.Poza in care tabla pare desfacuta te pacaleste oarecum,aia e vopsea umflata am dat-o jos cu mana imediat,sub ea e ceva rugina ,sa vedem dupa ce curatam ce ramane,el zicea ca e posibil sa scap fara retus, sau sa fie putin de retusat,mai vedem sincer nu prea cred oricum i-am aratat kitul de reparatie de la BMW (am unul pe albastru ramas de la E46-ele lui Ionut) si a zis ca e ok.So tu du list anu asta:
-bielete anitiruliu de vazut ce si cum
-stanga fata huruie ceva pe franare/viraje + pe franare volanul joaca,asta e recenta discuri ovalizate sau ce o fi acolo
-itp
-usa fata
-lichid servo are 4 ani de cand l-am schimbat si doar vreo 30.000 km ce-i drept
-daca am bulan bag si 2 bari stabilizatoare scuumpeeeeeee
-de verificat si reverificat caseta de directie- cica are joc -sunt curios daca e vreun E46 fara... la mine in functie de mecanicul care trage de ea are sau nu joc,un lucru e sigur cu motorul pornit nu are joc cool.gif
Anul viitor sau peste 2 ani:
-vas expansiune+termostat+radiator+lichid racire - preventiv desi vasul meu pare ok,la un moment dat am avut presiune mare in sistem(nu deschidea busonul,asta apropo de bulirea vaselor de expansiune) si vad ca radiatorul are un pic de burta laugh.gif termostatul nu da erori
