Walter Röhrl
Walter Röhrl (born March 7, 1947 in Regensburg) is a German rally and auto racing driver, with famous victories for Fiat, Opel, Lancia and Audi as well as Porsche, Ford and BMW.

At the age of 16, Röhrl began working for the Bishop of Regensburg, and soon became a driver who covered about 120,000 km annually as the bishop's driver. Being also active in sports like skiing, he was invited to drive his first rally in 1968.

Röhrl was a World Rally Championship favorite during the 1970s and 1980s, winning the Monte Carlo Rally four times on four different brands. His Fiat 131 Abarth carried him to the 1980 title, but it was arguably his equivalent success in 1982 that impressed most of all, with Röhrl fending off audacious four-wheel drive opposition to take the title, by virtue of consistency, in his increasingly outmoded Opel Ascona 400.

In 1983, he almost won again with a 2WD Lancia Rallye, before finally moving to the 4WD Audi Quattro which were made in his home state of Bavaria. He did compete only in selected events, though, and scored only 14 WRC victories in his career.

Besides World Championship, he won the African Rally Championship in 1982 [1].

Röhrl was also successful in road racing events, and called "Genius on Wheels" by Niki Lauda. In an early 1990s 24 Hours Nürburgring race which saw fog and heavy rain in the night, he hardly slowed down, anticipating the corners by timing. The race was nevertheless interrupted for hours.

Several magazines and other drives pronounced him "best rally driver ever" or similar.

In recent years, he has been retained as the senior test driver for Porsche road cars, famously setting quick laptimes for them testing round the famous Nürburgring Nordschleife. e.g. with the Porsche Carrera GT.

Ford clean up and Henning beats Petter to the podium

Mikko Hirvonen took victory for Ford in the inaugural Rally Norway WRC event, with team mate Marcus Grönholm in a close second place, quashing earlier speculation that the team might ask Mikko to allow Marcus to win for his position in the championship.

Henning Solberg came out on top from the brotherly battle for third, beating little brother Petter by 16.5 seconds after a storming third leg on Sunday for the Team Expert driver. Solberg had to make do with fourth after struggling on the final day with shorter studs on his tyres but he fought tooth and nail to the end to try and out-do his brother.

Jari-Matti Latvala from Finland claimed more points for Ford in 5th place, and Swede Daniel Carlsson took seventh. Eight of the top ten drivers were from the Nordic countries, with Italian Gigi Galli in sixth and Jan Kopecky from the Czech Republic the only non-Scandinavians to claw their way into the top set.

Local heroes Rune Dalsjø and Andreas Mikkelsen came 9th and 10th respectively, proving themselves more than capable in front of the home crowd. Mikkelsen’s achievement is particularly noteworthy as the seventeen year old is a relative newcomer and doesn’t yet have a driving license in Norway.

Champion Sébastian Loeb had been showing strong results in the first Leg and fist half of Leg 2 but he planted his Citroen in a snow bank on SS12 and lost eight minutes getting clear.

Da se face scoala pentru a fi copilot. Dar "legatura" cu pilotul si modul in care se inteleg conteaza mult mai mult decat orice scoala.
Si un ultimul exemplu in acest sens: echipajul Claudiu David -Mihaela Beldie care au participat in WRC, raliul Argentinei, au sarit afara in una dintre ultimele speciale pentru ca Mihaela (copilotul) a dictat prea tarziu un viraj. Din fericire nu s-a pierdut decat timp si ei au reusit sa termine super onorabil un raliu greu.
